Album of the Month: February

Devin Townsend - Ziltoid the Omniscient

This is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. Let me try to sum it up in a single run on sentence: Ziltoid the Omniscient is a sci-fi progressive metal opera by Devin Townsend about an alien coming to Earth demanding a cup of coffee only to be insulted by the 'fetid' coffee presented to him. Yes, it's as amazing as it sounds.

Here's a few more songs:

'By Your Command'

This song demonstrates some of the many styles of Devin Townsend. He sends you from one mood to the next seamlessly. 'By Your Command' is my favorite song on the album, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

'Hyperdrive'

And just one more. 'Hyperdrive' is one of Devin's more popish songs. He sings with clean vocals throughout (except one scream).

There is so much win in this album, I can't stress that enough. If you haven't listened to it yet do so. There is a sequel coming out!

What I've been playing lately: DC Universe Online

When I first heard about this game I thought it sounded terrible. After watching some ingame footage some months ago I thought it looked cool, but I probably wouldn't spend my money on it. But after watching streams of people play it online, I just couldn't resist.

Now I'll go over the character creation process of DCUO.

The character creation is fairly impressive. The only things you pretty much can't edit are the proportions of your characters. For instance:

If you want to play a female character, you can only have huge boobs. What if I wanted massive boobs? How am I suppose to role play a super hero who had radioactive goo spilt all over her breasts? Whatever.

Next you pick a Morality:

This will decide your faction. Think of Horde vs. Alliance in WoW.

Then you pick your Mentor. A hero can pick Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman, while a villian can choose The Joker, Lex Luther or Circe. These don't affect combat. From all I can see they decide your starting area and the type of quest loot you might get.

Now is probably one of the more important decisions. You super powers. Your super power will decide you roll. This will be your class. The super powers are broken down into three catagories: Tank, Healer and Controller. Mind you every super power has the option to be a damage dealer.

If you're anything like me, at this point you'd go only and see what power cry about the most. Alot of the tears seemed to flow towards fire. And appearently they failed to extinguish fire's OPness.

From here you get to select the way your super hero will get around. Movement modes come in three flavors: Flight, Acrobatics and Super Speed. Super Speed makes you look the most rediculous so naturally I selected it.

Weapon type is the next thing you get to choose, and they is alot to pick from. I'm not going to go over all of them.

And now comes the best part of the character creation process: Making yourself look as slutty/rediculous as possible.

Nice. There's enough slut... But it needs a little more redic.

Prefect.

So all in all the game is pretty fun. It's a lot different from your standard WoW clone you might play. The combat system is fun. When you get stunned it's because you made a mistake, not because of RNG.

Thick as a Brick: Follow up

In case you were interested in actually listening to Thick as a Brick, here is part 1: (It's live and they cut the live version up, but it's amazing.)

Album of the Month: January

Every month I'll be writing about one my favorite albums. This doesn't mean the album is going to be new, and this month it isn't going to be a new album. This album is still amazing though.

Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick

Thick as a Brick is Jethro Tull's answer for a concept album. Don't be fooled by the fact that the album only has 2 songs on it. Part 1 is 22 minutes long while part 2 is 21 minutes long. There is ALOT to take in with this album. I highly recommend this album.
